Apple iPhone making wonders again with Battery Power

21 06 2007

Will iPhone battery really going to last as long as 8 hours of talk time? If they can have this feature, that would really be amazing. Imagine, if they can do this they would be the industry leader when it comes to battery life. This would mean that its battery life is better than any other PDA, smartphone, and even some MP3 players. 8 hours talk time is just too good.

iPhone Battery Chart

I immediately tried looking for iPod battery charts and found out that iPhone have even longer battery life than most of their regular iPods models. iPod only has limited features, from here we can understand if it just consume less power. Playing audio while phone internals doing something, e.g. getting your phone regularly connected to the phone network, that I think would be bit costly.

Taken from iPod Battery FAQ:
″Q: How much playing time should I get out of my iPod battery? (What is the playing time for different iPod models?)

A: Apple’s specifications specify a battery life of 10 hours for the 1st and 2nd generation iPod, 8 hours for the 3rd generation iPod and 1st generation iPod mini, 12 hours for the 4th generation iPod and iPod shuffle, 15 hours for iPod photo, 18 hours for the 2nd generation iPod mini, 14 hours for the iPod nano and 30GB iPod video, and 20 hours for the 60GB iPod video. Many factors can, of course, influence this. Under good conditions, you should indeed get around the specified hours of battery life on a new iPod. This amount varies with age, usage style, and other factors, such as music encoding format, backlight use, etc. To get the most out of your battery.

See this detailed table for battery capacities and playing times for different iPod models. “

I’m just wondering. If they can do this with the current batteries available, then they either really did a good job on the low-voltage consumption of the iPhone or they are doing magic inside Apple Labs hehe :)

Or maybe they have new battery technology, one that you charge for more than 8 hours before using to get it to stay alive for that long. Just kidding! But come to think about it, if they did it in iPod, I think they can also do it in iPhone. Definitely, something to wait for.  If only they can make the price more cheaper. ;)

Photography and Common Mistakes - Learn from others

20 06 2007

I keep on remembering what we usually joke around with friends. The quality of the picture is not dependent on the power of the camera (be it DSLR or point-and-shoot), but on the one that gets the photograph. Lousy excuse for those that can’t afford to buy high-end DSLR, like Me. Hehe :)

I just got fond of taking pictures when I got to Singapore. Most probably, it’s because we have lots of places to go to here. And most of them are so near that you don’t need to travel very far to get some good snaps. I am still a beginner on this and just a hobbyist that likes to get remembrances through pictures. I have uploaded a few number of albums myself and if anyone’s interested its in my photobucket account. :) I am using a Fujifilm FinePix E900 by the way.

I found this really interesting article by a professional photographer named Andre Gunther. It is for me really a good read. Hope you can learn from it as I did.

The wait

20 06 2007

My soon to be Asus R1F is already ordered. I got it last PC Show 2007 in Suntec. I bought it there to get some freebies along with the machine. Don’t usually buy stuff without discounts or freebies. Hehe :)

The problem is that the item was so hot that time, that even if I already had a reservation, I wasn’t able to buy it on time. So I was advised that we need to wait for more or less a month before it can be delivered.

Anyways, I got these free items:

1. 80 GB mobile hard disk
2. ASUS myCinema TV Tuner
3. Free upgrade 1 GB RAM ( Total of 2 GB Ram)

Now, back to my desperately most awaited notebook. I chose ASUS R1F among other models, because I wanted to have a tablet pc for my “the” next pc. There were lots of brands and models to choose from, but ASUS is the most cost effective(cheap..hehe) and worthy one for me. Other alternatives such as IBM(Lenovo), Fujitsu was just out of my budget. And HP didn’t have the models I wanted.

Here is the specification of my notebook-to-be:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
Chipset Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset, Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
OS - Microsoft Windows Vista Business
RAM - DDR2 667MHz, 2 GB
Display - 13.3″ WXGA (1280×800) Color Shine LCD, Asus Splendid Video Intelligence Technology
Graphics - Integrated (Intel GMA 950)
Audio - Integrated Sound Card, built-in speaker and microphone
Hard Drive - 120GB 5400RPM SATA+TPM
Optical Drive - 8x DVD/RW Super Multi
Dimensions/weight - 31.7 x 23.2 x 3.5 cm (12.5 in x 9.13 in x 1.4 in)
- 4.3 lbs.
Battery/power -  6 cell, 5200 mAh, 3 - 4 hours

Light up the Web with Silverlight

20 06 2007

This Silverlight post is already a bit late, but here it goes.

 Silverlight

Silverlight is one of the interesting new upcoming products of Microsoft that really excites me. For those that don’t have any background of it, Silverlight (or WPF/E Windows Presentation Foundation/ Everywhere) is a next generation framework MS is providing for users to build highly interactive media-based rich internet applications(RIA). It is cross platform, cross-browser solution and best of all it has the lightweight .NET CLR inside it. For developers with existing WPF skills, your XAML code will work fine if you want to use it on the web, except for a few features such as 3D. You really have to experience it to really appreciate the things you can do with it.

I have collected some number of links which I will refer to once I will start learning this stuff. Here it is:

I just attended a seminar in Microsoft yesterday and it was about Windows Server 2008 (Longhorn Server). The event was intended for Microsoft Partners and was called Microsoft Technology Day. I didn’t how I was invited to attend this as I am not part of an organization that is their partner.(Well not anymore.) I was really fortunate to attend it and luckily one of the sessions is about Silverlight. The demos were really impressive, I hope I can already get my new laptop so that I can play with these new technologies. I’m planning to install a VM(Virtual Machine) for this by the way. My current one just can’t handle a Virtual Machine with all these heavy apps. It will just choke. I also don’t have enough space. Im already so excited to try out Silverlight but that would have to wait.

Setting up the blog

18 06 2007

Wow! There are really lots of cool themes to choose from on wordpress. I am yet to explore the other features wordpress offers. I really got a hard time deciding which theme to take. I really liked Freshy, Regulus, Tarski, and Ocean Mist. Fjords was also cool and totally unique with those 4 columner(if there’s such a term).

But I liked Freshy a lot. I think I’ll use it as my theme for now. Now back to setup. :-)

Hello blog!

18 06 2007

Hi guys,

First post huh. What can I say. Thanks for visiting my site.  ;o)

This is my second web blog. I have already deserted my first one for a long time. That was purely a technology blog. This time around I’m looking into making this more interesting by posting more about my life here in Singapore (or wherever I will be thrown) for a change. And not just boring tech stuffs (although I still will, nobody can’t force me to not do it. hehehe).  This would now be both my personal and tech blog.

I hope I can write a lot of interesting things here as soon as possible.

Have a nice day! And Happy Bloggin’!!! ;-)
